Random-access memory (RAM) is a form of computer data storage. A random-access device allows stored data to be accessed in very nearly the same amount of time for any storage location, so data can be accessed quickly in any random order. There are 5 types of RAM:

1. EDO RAM
EDO RAM can provide system performance 50% faster than DRAM. EDO RAM like FPM DRAM, with some cache built into the chip. Like FPM DRAM, EDO RAM has a maximum speed of 50MHz EDO RAM L2 Cache uga should need to make everything run faster, but if the user does not have it, then EDO RAM will run much slower.

2. FPM RAM (Fast Page Mode DRAM)
Fast Page Mode DRAM is the most old models. The problem that often arises from FPM DRAM is the slow transfer speed that is maximum 50MHz.

3. SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM)
Almost all systems use voltage 3.3 volts, 168-pin SDRAM DIMMs. SDRAM is not an extension of a long series of EDO RAM, but a new type of DRAM. SDRAM started walking with transfer speeds of 66MHz, while page mode DRAM and EDO longer be run on a maximum of 50MHz. SDRAM can now be run at 133MHz (PC133), and trap up to 180MHz or higher. In order to accelerate the performance of processors, the new generation of RAM such as DDR and RDRAM are usually able to support better performance.

4. DDR (Double Data Rate SDRAM)
DDR basically have double the transfer speed than SDRAM. DDR will operate at 333MHz, with the actual operation of 166MHz * 2 (aka PC333 / PC2700) or 133MHz * 2 (PC266 / PC2100). DDR RAM is compatible with SDRAM physically, but uses a similar parallel bus, making it easier implemnetasi than RDRAM, which is a different technology.

5. Rambus RAM (RDRAM)

Besides the price is quite expensive, Intel gives RDRAM for consumers, and is the right choice for the Intel Pentium 4 memory. RDRAM is a serial memory technology that comes with three options, namely PC600, PC700, and PC800. PC800 RDRAM is designed to double the maximum transfer speed than the PC100 SDRAM, but has high latency. RDRAM has a multi-channel, such as the Pentium 4 motherboard, which can offer the best memory function, especially when paired with PC1066 RDRAM memory.
